History:
»» The orphaned daughter of a man without a face; without a memory beyond the bitter cold of the early spring she was born to and the ash coloring the sky, she was left on her own and eventually adopted by a kindly old couple, the stallion AFANASIY SOLOVYOVA and his mate, MARIAMNA, who thought of her as their own.
»» Because Layla has been sickly since birth, her entire life consisted of being treated like millimeter-thick glass. She did not mind. There was always the lingering idea that she did not belong, and the love and affection allowed her to temporarily forget. Her childhood was full of laughter and the warmth of sunlight.
»» Eventually, however, Mariamna took sick and died, leaving her with no one but Afanasiy. For a long time they wandered the countryside, attempting to be pillars of support, each to each. But like lovebirds, Afanasiy did not survive long without his Maria – after a year he too passed away, and Layla was suddenly alone.
