So I've visited this idea once before, but how would ya'll feel about wolves joining the site?
It could be a temporary thing, like for a site plot, or it could be permanent. I want to get some ideas from you guys, though, because I've only played wolves once and that was when I first got involved in the role playing world. So I won't be adopting one.
My gist is that I think adding wolves as more than just NPC's will add a pinch of spice to the site.
Anyway, thoughts?

Eh. If I'm honest, my reaction is lukewarm at best. As NPC's or random events, it might work - but as player controlled characters it might get a bit...
Well, you get the whole 'I'm gonna kill you' thing for one. Then you get the arrival of people who play ONLY as wolves, who think wolves are superior in every way etc etc.
Not to mention some wolf rpers are absolutely insufferable gits.
As a time-limited plot then it could work, but it would need considerable effort to be kept in check if it ever got off the ground. And as for a permanent thing, I cannot say that it would be advisable.
But that's just me -shrug-

I agree with Banni.
I love the idea of a site wide plot, but only temporary.
Because, like Banni said, there would be people who arrive and ONLY play wolves. And then WRV would become over run with them.. and it just wouldn't be WRV any more.
HOWEVER, if we were to advertise like NUTS perhaps we could get some of those wolf rpers to try rping horses?
But yeah, I am really iffy about it as a long term thing.

No wolves. If its long term, it'll just sort of fizzle out. There isn't enough interest and activity. If its short term, we have to keep in mind how hard it is to make fast moving plots. :/ I dunno hey

I know I'm not really around here anymore but... if my insight means anything I'll throw it out. What if wolves - temporary or otherwise - could only be played by more of our older roleplayers? People who have been on the site for a good while, have horse characters and that we know aren't strict wolf-only players. It would limit the amount of wolves as well as who they go to. It would insure that WRV isn't run over by them. >: Just a thought. <3

I remember when we had Cougars back on Avidgamers. Yeah the concept was cool, and it was a big thing for like...3 months and then it just sort of died.
I would agree with adding wolves but I have the feeling that just like the cougar concept...it will fizzle and die and stay that way.
Now, if it were like a big site wide thing that was temporary, say during a flood or a fire or some other natural disaster, like Banni said about the more experienced and older roleplayers playing those particular characters. Maybe not just wolves, I'm down for cougars and bears too. Predation happens, especially during famine and bad times.
If you guys were to include wolves, I would say do it during times of hardship, when predation would be a huge issue. But have people that are very active on this site perform these roles. Or allow people to "buy" a predator role during hardships.
Say like, x amount of points (a substantial amount) buys you a predator character.
Just my two cents.
But I do like the idea very much.

My initial instinct is to say no. :/ However, if you wanted to create them I'd make them be either a prize item or something that was bought for a high price, so that we know A} people who have them are using horses primarily and B} they won't overrun the place.
But I am still pretty against it. :/

So far it seems like the the idea of it being temporary is sticking. So, temporary it is.
I'd definitely like to include it into a plot, and it's possible they could become store-bought, but I don't know. I like the idea of them being briefly playable and then returning to NPC-status.
My thinking is that we would just need enough to create a wolf pack or two. Limit it, set out a guideline for the purpose/plot of the wolves, and then conclude it. In all, I'm thinking the wolves could be on site for maybe... oh, two to three real life months. If that. Just a brief plot that could spur some agony or something if they managed to kill a loved one, et cetera. But then the whole valley could rise against them and chase them out, or something corny like that.

we've had cougars, why not wolves. But I say have try-outs and a limited number, including limited breeding.

I like the idea of a controlled population of wolves -- as a mini-plot, for now, and then feel it out, as a possible permanent feature.
However, I do not agree with letting only 'oldbies' roleplay the wolves. I think that only encourages a kind of... elitism, for lack of a better term (although that sounds much too harsh).
I think tryouts for the entire site is reasonable. Maybe a population of five to seven, to start with, as a sort've test run? That's enough for a single, middle-sized pack.

I love the idea of everyone having to work together to run the wolves out xD.
But yeah, I agree with fossil (even though I've been here forever) it's still not far, because I know if I were new and I couldn't be like included it would just totally upset me and I'd quit. End of story. So like I think a possible like pre-made characters or something of that kind, could be made and then played and bred and then other people could attain wolves that way possibly?
But yeah, the whole thing could last like a couple real life months and then leh cute ponies run them out <3 lol YAY.

I like the idea. I'm not sure I'd want one myself, but it could be a fun thing to try. On my old site, which was a lot like WR, we had a pack of catlike creatures as part of a plot and we had tons of fun with them.
I would like to say this though; as a roleplayer who is just getting back into horses after playing only wolves for a year or so, it's really off putting for me to join a site and immediately read a thread in which wolf roleplayers are called names and elitists. I do realize that this is not aimed at all of us, but it's still a little off putting. Especially since I've had an equal amount, if not more, of those problems with horse roleplayers in the four years I was on horse sites. Not trying to cause trouble, but I wanted to put out there that that is an opinion you might want to keep to yourself in the future.
Otherwise, I'd just like to say that I really like this site so far :) You guys have done a really good job with it and I look forward to roleplaying here <3

Ah, I would also like to echo what Nevreme said about the vague name-calling and insinuated insults with wolf-roleplayers, since I myself am in much the same situation. I have been roleplaying wolves for the past few years, but I roleplayed horses for several years before that, and am coming back to the genre. She makes a good point; no matter what genre is chosen, the people are generally much the same, and I speak from personal experience. There is just as much elitism and snobby attitudes as there are kind hearts and warm welcomes across every spectrum, and even varies between communities within the same genre. x]
Just... perhaps we should all be more aware of what we say and how we treat other people? :]

I would be fine with having wolves and having tryouts or whatever...but still not as a permanent thing.
And I was the one who I feel began the elitist thing. I went about it wrong and I didn't mean for it to sound the way it did. I apologize if I offended anyone
And yes, Tryouts would be a much better idea. I apologize if I offended anyone. I did not mean to sound elitist or discriminatory in any way. I was a n00b once, and in many ways I still fail as a RPer.
Here's why, I'm still on the fence with the wolves thing...
1. We had cougars for a good while and there were tryouts and there was interest, but it totally died. And I would hate to see that happen to wolves too. But I feel the cougars died because no one wanted to risk their character being injured or killed. Which is why a random attack where the admins draw names out of a hat or something (unless that person wants to be killed) should become a part of it. Keep it alive.
2. I've seen hybrid sites where it's wolf and deer or wolf and horse, or something involving 2 different species that aren't fantasy related (I have no idea how those sites work, I prefer realism)--I couldn't really get into it. Every one was either wolf heavy or horse heavy, there wasn't enough of a balance between the two to really--make it work.
So I say...
-Tryouts - Limit the number of wolves -Have them come into play at random at first -if it catches on, make it a permanent feature but still limit the number of wolves to equines so there is a balance.
